Quick answer: Use periodic sales, channel, inventory and campaign metrics rather than one volatile rank. Focus on a useful book, correct positioning, discoverability and measurable reader acquisition rather than shortcuts.
Start with the purpose
The right decision depends on whether the book is for private copies, formal publication, retail distribution, academic use, institutional sales or direct-to-reader sales. Define the outcome before choosing services.
Practical checklist
- Clarify the reader and the promise of the book.
- Finalize and proofread the manuscript before production.
- Prepare a print-ready interior and cover specification.
- Decide whether you need only printing or a publishing/distribution service.
- Keep rights, ISBN, contracts, MRP, quantity and distribution records organized.
Printing is only one part of the author journey
Chaitanya Print is positioned primarily around printing: book specifications, live supported price estimates, print-ready files, binding and delivery. ISBN allocation, copyright registration, editing, distribution or bestseller marketing should not be assumed unless a public service page explicitly offers them. Authors can independently use the appropriate official or specialist service where required.
Before spending money
Ask for the scope in writing. A printing quotation should explain the physical product; a publishing package should separately explain rights, ISBN/imprint, editing, design, distribution, royalty, marketing and contract duration. This distinction prevents confusion between “printing a book” and “publishing a book.”
Reality check: No ethical printer, publisher or marketer can guarantee that a title will become a bestseller. Rankings depend on the specific list/store/category, sales velocity, competition, time window and reader demand.
