University rules come first
There is no single thesis format that overrides your university's regulations. Before printing, check the latest department or university instructions for page size, margins, paper, colour pages, single- or double-sided printing, cover text, binding colour and number of copies. If those rules conflict with a general printing guide, follow the institution.
Page size and margins
A4 is widely used for academic documents. Binding requires enough inner margin so text remains comfortably visible after the document is bound. Do not place page numbers, tables or footnotes too close to the trim edge. If your university supplies a Word template, retain its prescribed page setup.
Single-sided vs double-sided printing
Some institutions specify one method. Duplex printing can reduce the physical thickness of a high-page-count document, but it requires suitable paper opacity and correct blank-page handling between major sections. Check whether chapters are expected to start on odd-numbered pages.
Black-and-white and colour pages
Text, charts and photographs should remain understandable in the selected print mode. If only certain pages genuinely need colour, provide clear page references or a final PDF that has already been reviewed for mixed printing.
Hard binding and soft binding
Universities may request temporary softbound copies before evaluation and hardbound copies after final corrections. Hardcover colour, spine text, front-cover wording and foil details may be specified by the institution. Confirm the exact wording before production.
